Tulsa Shooter Identified, Authorities Revealed Suspected Motive Behind Shooting

TULSA, OK – Officials have revealed the identity of the now-deceased shooter behind the mass shooting carried out at a hospital on June 1st that left four people killed, three of whom were hospital staff members and one patient. Outside of naming the deceased suspect, authorities also presented a motive behind the mass shooting that suggests the targeting of the hospital was not at all random.

The Tulsa Police Department identified 45-year-old Michael Louis as the man who carried out the mass shooting at Saint Francis hospital on June 1st before taking his own life.

Authorities say Louis entered the facility’s Natalie building at approximately 5:00 p.m. on the day of the incident, killing the four victims before turning the gun on himself while Tulsa Police were zeroing in on his location on the second floor of the building.

The victims of the mass shooting were identified as 59-year-old Dr. Preston Phillips, 48-year-old Dr. Stephanie Husen, 40-year-old receptionist Amanda Glenn, and 73-year-old patient William Love. Officials claim that the target of the shooting was Dr. Phillips, with the deceased suspect’s motive stemming from grievances associated with previous care rendered at the facility.

Apparently, Louis had seen Dr. Phillips for back surgery on May 19th and had been released from the hospital on May 24th. In the days following his release from the hospital, Louis had reportedly called Dr. Phillips’s office several times complaining about back pain and sought additional treatment.

Come May 31st, Louis had gone back in to see Dr. Phillips to receive more treatment but had called back in one day later on June 1st to again complain about experiencing back pain. Police reportedly found a note on Louis’ body that detailed that Dr. Phillips was his target and that he’d kill anyone who’d get in his way.

ATF officials confirmed that Louis had purchased a handgun on May 29th at a pawn shop as well as an AR-15-style rifle roughly three hours before the shooting from a local FFL.

The Saint Francis Health System issued a statement grieving the loss of their three employees and one patient, stating, “As a faith-based organization, the only recourse we have at this moment is to pray while we navigate this tragedy.”

Speaking with The Daily Beast, the niece of the now-deceased gunman, who asked not to be named, called the acts of her uncle “heinous,” adding, “I don’t even want to be associated because I’m so disgusted.”

It’s unclear whether Louis had previous contact with law enforcement in the past. However, the niece did claim the behavior of her uncle to be both disturbing and unexpected, saying, “This is really crazy. Like, this is shocking…No one in our family, like nobody in our family, has this type of behavior. No one.”
