Gun-Grabbing Propaganda Spewed By Philly Mayor After Cops Get Shot In Crime Ridden City

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Hours after two Philadelphia Police Officers were shot during a Fourth of July celebration, Mayor Jim Kenney used a Tuesday morning press conference to blatantly push gun-grabbing agenda.

During a major celebration dubbed the “Welcome America” event at Eakins Oval at the foot of the Philadelphia Art Museum, thousands were gathered to enjoy the show after a day filled with fun at Benjamin Franklin Parkway. As musical performances ended and the fireworks show began (around 9:45pm), shots started being fired from an unknown location.

Two police officers were hit and, according to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, suffered from graze wounds- one to the shoulder and the other to the forehead. Both officers were treated at the hospital and released.

A stampede naturally ensued while people tried to get to safety, and apparently, there were no other injuries from that.

Tuesday morning, Commissioner Outlaw said that no one has been taken into custody, and, in fact, it’s not even known at this time whether the officers were hit intentionally or coincidentally by someone shooting in the air.

As stated, Mayor Kenney used the opportunity to make some rather blatant anti-gun statements.

“Until Americans decide that they want to give up the guns and give up the opportunity to get guns, we’re going to have this problem,” he said.

Further, Kenney falsely said that the mass shooting threat is uniquely an American problem. This is a shameless lie, as we have seen mass shootings in the very recent past in a Copenhagen, Denmark mall, a Victoria, Canada-area shootout with police following a robbery, a Schwalmstadt, Germany grocery store shooting, and the list goes on.

In fact, a World Population Review article reads, “Although events in the U.S. tend to get the lion’s share of media exposure, mass shootings are clearly a worldwide issue.” The article goes on to list alphabetically “just some of the [developed countries] other than the United States that have experienced one or more mass shootings in the past few decades,” which includes ” AzerbaijanBelgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, BrazilFinlandFrance, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Nigeria, Norway, the PhilippinesRussiaSerbiaSpain, and Switzerland.”

The Crime Prevention Research Center regularly updates their study which most recently in 2019 ranked the United States 66th among world nations for frequency of mass public shootings per capita. Also a comparative 2015 study by the same group found that compared to only European countries and Canada, the US ranked 12th.

Considering there are more guns than there are people in the United States, one would think that people like Mayor Kenney would stop to ponder why there aren’t mass shootings in the nation every day. Instead, they say that more guns equal more danger, despite the data saying otherwise.
