TeQuella Tyson is the mother of five children. A while ago, TeQuella and her children were living with her aunt in North Carolina, but the aunt was planning to move, so they had to temporarily move into a nearby hotel. But somebody ended up calling the Scotland County Department of Social Services on her, claiming falsely that her children were being neglected and that they had nowhere to live.
But even though TeQuella says these claims were false, the Scotland DSS seized all of her children. Even after TeQuella completed treatment course plans for mental health and substance abuse, DSS never contacted her about getting her kids back. In fact, TeQuella says she has a house right now, rather than a hotel, but DSS still is keeping her children away from her.
But while DSS is keeping TeQuella away from her children, they also aren’t even giving all her children a substitute family. TeQuella’s daughter TaQueria currently lives at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She’s lived there for the past four months. She’s not ill. Instead, DSS is refusing to find a foster placement for her. Obviously, this is having a disastrous impact on her development, which the hospital staff have already told DSS. TaQueria needs to interact and play with children her age. Instead, she’s living in a hospital.
This is a recent statement filed in court by the hospital. Quote: “Scotland County DSS … has essentially abandoned this child, who just celebrated her 9th birthday in the Emergency Department where she has resided since February.” The statement continues, quote: “[DSS has not visited with] any regularity, nor has it arranged for any adult supervision of minor child Taqueria Tyson despite repeated efforts by NHRMC to request same.” In fact, it was only a month ago that DSS even bothered to arrange for TaQueria to receive even the smallest amount of education, totaling three hours per week.
This is an actual case of child neglect. DSS has literally dumped a child into a hospital, stunting her growth for life, and refusing to let her reunite with her mother. TeQuella Tyson joins us.
