NEW YORK CITY, NY – The driver of a Access-A-Ride car is currently at large following an incident caught on camera where the unidentified individual was filmed physically pulling a 78-year-old woman out of the backseat of the vehicle.

According to local news outlet ABC7, the incident reportedly occurred on August 31st in Brooklyn’s Marine Park at approximately 3:30 p.m. on East 35th Avenue near the corner of Avenue North.

A bystander happened to catch the incident on camera, where the elderly woman could be heard yelling at the Access-A-Ride driver who was forcibly pulling the woman out of the backseat by her feet.

While the elderly woman was on the ground and futilely striking the driver with her cane, she could be heard saying, “Call the police! He’s got my phone!” As the bystander filming the incident approached the driver, he asked the driver, “Can you give her the phone,” at which point the driver quickly hands over and then makes his way back to the driver’s seat.

Realizing that the driver was going to flee the scene, the bystander says, “Can you not stop and run away,” to which the driver completely ignores and places the vehicle into gear. Right as the bystander begins saying, “You’re going to have to run over me,” the driver punches the gas and indeed hits the bystander with the vehicle.

Luckily, the bystander wasn’t seriously injured after being struck with the vehicle, as he was able to quickly make his way back to the elderly victim to make sure she was okay.

When the bystander asked the woman if she was alright, she responded, “No I’m not, I’m a 78-year-old lady and he pulled me out of the cab. He took my money, he took my phone.” Consoling the woman in the moment, the bystander informed her that he was at least able to get her phone back from the driver.

According to police, the elderly woman had requested the ride service so as to attend a physical therapy appointment. However, the elderly woman claims that the driver had driven past her designated stop and was refusing to let her out of the vehicle. A dispute between the victim and driver allegedly ensued thereafter, reportedly leading up to the incident caught on camera.

Both the elderly woman and the bystander who came to her assistance were treated at an area hospital for minor injuries.

New York City’s Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) issued a statement on the matter, saying, “TLC is aware of the incident and is working with the NYPD on their investigation.”

Police have not made any arrests in the case as of yet nor has the driver been publicly identified as of this writing.
