The victim was later identified as 69-year-old Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative reporter Jeff German, whose death was reportedly caused by multiple stab wounds, according to officials. Investigators believe German had gotten into some kind of an altercation with an individual sometime on September 2nd that then led to the fatal stabbing.
Metropolitan Police Department Captain Dori Koren told reporters that, “We believe the altercation took place outside of the home,” while adding, “We do have some leads. We are pursuing a suspect, but the suspect is outstanding.”
Officials have not publicly identified the suspect they believe to be involved in the slaying, however, the stabbing is being treated as an isolated incident, and authorities say there is currently no threat to the public regarding the matter.
Glenn Cook, the executive editor of Las Vegas Review-Journal, bemoaned the loss of German, remarking on his over three decades in journalism and the impact his work had on so many within the city.

“The Review-Journal family is devastated to lose Jeff. He was the gold standard of the news business. It’s hard to imagine what Las Vegas would be like today without his many years of shining a bright light on dark places.”
Cook added that German had never indicated to leadership within the workplace that his safety was in jeopardy or that he’d been threatened by anyone recently.
Prior to German joining the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 2010, he’d spent more than 20 years reporting for the Las Vegas Sun.
This past July, while speaking before an audience at the Treasure Island resort on the Las Vegas Strip, former President Donald Trump referred to Nevada turning into a “cesspool of crime” while asserting that Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak is “letting your state go to hell.”
The appearance in Las Vegas was an attempt to boost the profiles of active Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, who is running for governor, and former Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who is running for the Senate.
Trump also remarked on the persecution of police officers in the state that is emboldening criminals and seeing officers being locked up for simply trying to do their job.
“We need to stop conducting prosecutions of officers who make honest mistakes. Police officers will never be able to enforce the law if simply doing their jobs can land them in jail, take away their retirements, and basically ruin their lives and the lives of their family.”
